"MultiFEED JPNAP Service" To Begin Full Commercial Operation As Distributed Internet Exchange Service

TOKYO -- INTERNET MULTIFEED CO. (MFEED; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Koichi Suzuki) today announced that its distributed Internet exchange service, MultiFEED JPNAP Service, which has been offered on a trial basis since January, will begin full commercial operation on Tuesday, May 1.

After announcing last December plans to offer distributed Internet exchange service for stable switching of large-volume traffic among Internet providers, MFEED launched a trial service in January of this year. In April, the JPNAP access points in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo were interconnected by high-speed lines and final service evaluation was completed. On May 1, JPNAP will start full-scale operation and commercial service will begin.

JPNAP is a distributed Internet exchange service that is a forerunner to the all-optical (lightwave) interexchange service to be offered as early as next year. The service is provided from switches installed in two locations, the NTT Otemachi Building and the Tokyo Sankei Building. Internet service providers may choose either of these connection locations, and at either point will be able to exchange traffic with all the networks connected through JPNAP. More than a dozen leading ISPs are planning to join the service over the coming months, with a target participation of 30 firms within the first year of service.

At the same time as commercial service launches, the previously announced JPNAP service rates are being revised as follows.

Revised Rates for JPNAP service

1. Gigabit EtherPort (GbEPort)

   Rates per port
   Setup fee:	100,000 yen
   Basic monthly rate:	1,100,000 yen (was 1,200,000 yen)
   Second and subsequent ports:	1,000,000 yen

2. Fast EtherPort (FEPort)

   Rates per port
   Setup fee:	100,000 yen
   Basic monthly rate:	600,000 yen (was 800,000 yen)
   Second and subsequent ports:	500,000 yen (was 600,000 yen)
